I was sent these messages from a stranger in another country. The message was posted on a photo sharing website. I never posted it publicly and I thought it was a joke.

For a while I wasn’t sure what to say, but then I got a message from a very angry friend. I sent it to her but she was so upset. She told me about all the hate on Twitter because she was afraid of someone she knew sharing her story.

I wrote back to say I was really sad about that and was hoping it would stop. She told me she was angry that anyone would hurt a woman who is famous in her own country and this is why I’ve chosen to share my story to avoid being taken advantage of in any way.

“I’ve also been sent this image of your picture and you are in so much pain because of someone who I never even met. How can we trust a stranger if they haven’t even met you? I guess that you’re just being selfish and you should probably take it easier.”
